Technology is used every day at Fitz. Students use their Chromebooks to take tests, complete assignments, and do group projects, but is technology affecting students’ learning?
Mr. Housepian, who teaches history, believes that technology helps us with our everyday tasks. “When used correctly, computers are one of the most important human inventions,” said Mr. Housepian. “Technological inventions can be fun; from creating friendships online, winning championships, to keeping your passwords stored safely.”
Javier Alberto, an eighth grade student, also believes that technology is beneficial. “With the help of the internet, I can finish tough homework assignments and find new ideas for my upcoming projects,” said Alberto.
However, not everyone believes that technology is beneficial. In fact, some believe that technology can negatively impact lives. An anonymous eighth grader described the internet as “trash” since it ruined her life after people started spreading rumors about her. The rumors caused her to lose interest in school, which negatively affected her grades.
Many experts say that technology can take away time from the real world and that abusing it may cause physical issues such as poor sleeping habits, depression, and health disorders. Alberto agrees. Although he thinks technology is beneficial, he is aware that it can negatively affect his learning. “I always arrive at school so tired. My vision is extremely blurry.” Staying up is unhealthy and can affect your mental health and cause memory loss.
Technology is not always bad for you, but abusing it can lead to problems.
