Fitz Intermediate’s talent show took place on April 26 in the MPR during 6th period. The talent show showcased students’ incredible talents. There was a wide range of talent from playing the guitar, to singing an original song. The talent show was orchestrated by Ms. Gunderson who worked really hard to make it the best show ever, and it paid off.
Minh was the first contestant to perform in the talent show. Minh displayed his piano skills by playing “Military Polonaise” by Chopin. When Ms. Gunderson announced what Minh was going to be playing, it sounded very long and complicated, but he made it seem like it was a piece of cake. After he started playing, it was like heaven to our ears.
After Minh showed his breathtaking piano skills, they switched it up a bit and went to DeShawn Mathews who wrote an original song. DeShawn wrote his song to the background music track of the video game, Geometry Dash. DeShawn’s song was upbeat and catchy. It was a song that everyone could sing along and dance to. He is nothing but a star on stage. DeShawn is not one for stage fright; when he went on that stage you could tell it was going to be a great performance.
Once DeShawn was given a round of applause, we welcomed Kevin Huynh to the stage. Kevin entered the talent show to broadcast his amazing shredding abilities. Kevin played a piece by GALYNERUS. Kevin shredded along a track. He really blew everyone away with his abilities on guitar.
When Kevin finished his guitar shredding, everyone got to watch an art slideshow. The slideshow presented all of the marvelous artists from Fitz. The art that was presented ranged from a Winnie the Poo sculpture to portrait paintings.
Next up was the teacher reversal video, “A Day in the Life at Fitz,” directed and edited by Avea Niumata and produced by Erika Nguyen. The teachers wanted to show students how they act in the classrooms, so they did their best to try to impersonate students. Some teachers were on their phones, or playing with Tech Decks. Most of the students found it very amusing to watch because that's what they do in class everyday.
Following the teacher reversal video was Emmily Duenas. Emmily sang “Como La Flor” by Selena. Her vocals were precise, hitting those long and high notes. Her cover of Selena was a great performance. I think she could be the new Selena.
After Emmily finished singing, Nathan Manivong, a guitar god, was up to perform. His skills on the electric guitar are unbelievable. You wouldn’t believe me if I told you that a 14-year-old kid can play that phenomenally. The end of Nathan’s solo performance led right into the performance we had all been waiting for, the Frosty Boyz! The Frosty Boyz were the last of the students to perform in the talent show. After Nathan Manivong’s performance, it went right into the Frosty Boyz playing “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. They had Nathan Medrano on bass, Cesar Rangel on drums, Nathan Manivong as lead guitarist, and Kenji Atuatasi on piano and as lead singer. They all performed like a well-oiled machine. Kenji played the piano and sang at the same time––how amazing is that! After they sang “Bohemian Rhapsody,” they faded into “We Will Rock You,” also by Queen. They engaged with the crowd and made it feel like a concert.
To end the show, they surprised everyone with a performance by Mr. and Mrs. Dishong. Mr. Dishong and Mrs. Dishong sang a couple of songs at the end of the talent show. Mr. Dishong played the guitar and sang, but it was really Mrs. Dishong who was the star of the show. Mrs. Dishong hit every note and had a wide range of vocals. Her performance had some students in tears. You can clearly say that Mr. and Mrs. Dishong were crowd pleasers.
To conclude the evening, all of the performers went on stage and took a bow, while they were given an applause and in perfect timing with the school bell.
