Fitz held its first dance of the year on January 23, 2025, named the Winter Party. The party started at 4 p.m. and ended at 6 p.m. You only had to pay five dollars for the party, and when you got in, you got a pack of Pockys in a Lunar New Year envelope! This event was organized by ASB, some teachers, and AVID students who volunteered to run the snack booths. PTO also donated for this dance, putting up a stand with free mini pancakes you could choose your toppings for! Students and teachers worked hard to make this event, and their work paid off. Students got to bond with their peers and make new, joyful memories at this beautiful party.
As this was the first dance of the year, many students came to see what all the fuss was about. It was the seventh graders’ first dance at Fitz, and they enjoyed it thoroughly. Many students got to bond with their friends while having fun. Dancing in the dark, vibing to music, talking and buying each other snacks, and posing for pictures, all helped students form closer relationships with their friends while having an amazing night. ASB teacher Ms. Chin said, “I think students had a blast at the party because they were dancing, laughing, and spending time with their friends.” Seventh grader Katelinh Voung-Monroy said she was glad she came to the party because “It was a lot of fun, I got to spend a lot of time with my friends, and I made a lot of good memories there.” Ms. Chin said the Winter Party was a great experience because “Students [had] the opportunity to socialize with students and get out of their comfort zone.” The Winter Party was the perfect event to try new things and make new friends while having a good time.
There was a variety of food at this dance, too. Many students enjoyed the mini pancakes PTO was giving out for free. There were various toppings for these delicious pancakes, such as chocolate sauce, whipped cream, bananas, strawberries, chocolate chips, coconut flakes, and more. There was a giant line for these pancakes all night and students enjoyed them a bunch. Seventh grader Haily Wagoner said, “My favorite part of the party was the free mini pancakes.” An anonymous seventh grader said she enjoyed the party because “There was a lot of food.” And there sure was! There was soda, pizza, nachos, chips, chocolate, and more!
ASB helped create this event and included many activities students adored. Some activities were Connect Four, a photo booth, and various songs for students to dance to. Students danced to “El Caballo Dorado,” “La Iguana,” and “Gangnam Style,” along with fan favorites, such as “HOT TO GO!” Everybody was hyped up as they all danced together and laughed! Seventh grader Liliana Núñez said, “I liked the party because there were a lot of songs to dance to.” ASB is to thank for all of these fun songs and activities. Seventh-grade ASB member Haily Wagoner said, “ASB made the playlist, picked food, decorated, and planned.” ASB and teachers worked hard to make this party a success. They made the playlist with a variety of types of music, such as K-pop, pop, Latin music, and more. They decorated from after school to when the dance started, getting ready so the MPR was perfect. Ms. Chin, who is the ASB teacher, said, “It takes a lot of preparation, from getting the decorations to creating a playlist. The ASB students had to give up their lunchtime to sell tickets.” They worked hard, so thank you ASB and Mrs. Chin!
However, there’s always room for improvement. An anonymous student said she enjoyed the party but it was pretty dark. It was dark, and this student believes the MPR could’ve been set up with more lights to light up the MPR so students wouldn’t be stuck in complete darkness. Another anonymous student said, “I think the Winter Dance was prepared well but I think it could improve by having more activities.” There were a lot of people enjoying themselves but there were also a lot of students sitting on the sidelines not doing much, according to this student. ASB obviously did amazing on this event, but as it was the first one of the year, it’s always open to improvements to make it better the next time. Overall though, students agree that ASB did an amazing job on this party and they should keep up the good work!
In conclusion, ASB did an amazing job on this dance and students consider it a success. ASB worked hard to create this party and students had fun with the playlist they created, the food, and the activities they had. This event was a perfect time to bond more with your friends in a peaceful environment where everybody just wanted to have fun. Students will cherish the memories they made at this party for a long time.
