AI has been getting more advanced, little by little. This is a danger to our education. Students could easily type in a message and automatically get a response: Need help with your math problem? Gauth AI. Need to write an essay for your English class? ChatGPT. There is easy access to so much knowledge, which decreases how much students learn and makes teaching for teachers harder. AI makes grading unfair; students could be putting in all their effort in an assignment just to get a lower grade than someone who used AI. You never know, it’s a possibility! AI in general just causes cheating, and it is unfair.
Students are gaining easy access to artificial intelligence, and this is a warning sign for the future. A student named Lillian Nyugen says, “AI should only stick to being informative, not picture-wise, because it can put real artists out of business, bring harm to society, etc.” Because AI is so easy to use, it can be taken advantage of and used for things that are not important or helpful. However, not everyone has been tempted to use AI. An 8th-grade student named Van Dinh says that she has never used AI to do her work, stating, “No, because I do my own work.” Van's response shows that students are capable of not using AI and that AI is not necessary in the education system. If AI continues to replace basic thinking and learning tasks, it will weaken students' skills over time and slowly overtake our learning system, potentially harming it.
Teachers are struggling to keep up with AI. The problem is that sometimes AI is not visible to the naked eye. Advanced English teacher, Mrs. Hudson, claims, “I would go back because I can’t tell if a video is AI or not.” If AI videos have become human-like, imagine writing! This proves that AI is getting more advanced; it could master the education system, defeating the hard-working teachers who give their best just to teach, so that AI can give out the response, rather than the students using their knowledge. This could be a problem for teachers because AI work doesn’t show the progress of the students, so teachers can’t see how their students are doing.
In conclusion, with the growth of AI, it’s going to spread out and overtake more. Education is very important, and with AI being in the way, the capability of understanding is going to decrease.
