On February 3, 2024 Fitz Intermediate welcomed 2024-25 incoming students. Schools like Newhope, Monroe, Heritage, Simmons Elementary were welcomed to walk around campus and learn about electives and how middle school works.
6th graders arriving at Fitz Intermediate! Upon Arrival, the schools were greeted by our drumline and ASB. Drumline had amazing beats and rhythms, like elephants running. As students were escorted into the auditorium, they were instructed to be seated as other schools were entering. When all schools were in the auditorium, our principal, Mr. Gomez, introduced our vice principal, Mr. Magaña, and our amazing counselor, Mrs. Cook. They presented a slideshow of information about classes, electives, and how a schedule works. In the presentation, they also showed what would happen if a student is late to school or class, so it was very informational towards the incoming sixth graders. Our amazing mariachi also performed so that the six graders could see what after school activities there are. The elementary school teachers were pleased with the presentation. A Newhope teacher stated, “Mrs. Cook shared excellent information about all the electives so yes it’s very informative.”
After the presentation, students toured the school. All sixth graders were given the opportunity to walk around the campus and enter classrooms to see what is really going on at Fitz. While walking around campus, each elective had booths set up outside their classrooms. This was Fitz's first year creating booths and it was a success! Kerigma Arias, a student from Newhope loved seeing all the booths and walking around through some rooms. When asked what elective she was interested in, she responded, “Crafts because it looks fun and I love painting.” Choir, taught by Mrs. Hernadez, was also performing as students walked around campus and toured classrooms.
The purpose of this visit is to inform new arriving 7th graders about their transition from elementary to middle school, since this a huge change. I myself believe as a person who was also given the opportunity to walk around campus, I think it really did help me comprehend what’s to come. I believe the new arriving 7th graders are going to have a better understanding of their classes and how the grading system works here in Fitz Intermediate Language Academy.
It was great to see the class of 2024 getting to learn more about Fitz! We can’t wait to see them join our nest next year!
