Being a seventh grader can be overwhelming, but it gets easier once you get to know the staff and campus. Some seventh graders were nervous to step into middle school because they didn't know much about the campus, what to do, or how to communicate with teachers and classmates.
Seventh graders should know that being nervous about middle school is normal. Mrs. Cook believes that seventh graders can get through seventh grade once they get used to it. Mrs. Cook said, “They feel worried about being successful, but once they are used to it, they can make it through.” Once you get the hang of middle school you can start to really enjoy it, even if that means being a little nervous at the beginning.
If you're nervous, remember that school is always fun when you have somebody. An anonymous student said, “My favorite part as a seventh grader is having friends by your side who always support you and always cheer you up.” Friends can help you with homework when you don’t understand it. They can also help you with your feelings. For example, if you are sad, they will cheer you up, and if you are happy, they will make your day happier.
It is true that seventh grade is more challenging than sixth grade. Seventh graders go from having one class the entire day to having six or even seven classes each day. An anonymous student said, “I have experienced that you have to be more responsible and take your class grades more seriously because middle school is a bit more strict with grades than elementary school.” Seventh graders are worried about their grades, especially when their parents constantly check their grades.
Before you stress out, know that there are other ways to make your intermediate experience better. You can join a club, an after school program, or volunteer at school when the school needs help. But more importantly, seventh graders should know they aren’t alone. An anonymous 8th grader said, “Always ask for help when you need it or when you are stuck on something. You never get ahead trying to guess your way out of something.”
