Fitz should be less strict with student swearing. Some students can’t control swearing since some students’ parents swear at home.
Some students' parents swear at home and this has affected students mentally. A seventh grader said, “It has affected me mentally. Sometimes I have to go to school clubs to stay away from that. Sometimes I swear at school and I get in trouble when I don't mean it." Students who cannot control swearing should not be punished.
Other students swear because they started when they were little. For example, Lea Medina said, “I started in second grade because everyone was saying it, so I thought it was cool.” Some students grew up thinking swearing is cool and now can't control it and don’t know how to stop.
There are teachers who help students control their anger by telling them it’s ok to make mistakes. But some teachers scold their students, while other teachers let it slide because if they get them in trouble they will continue to swear on purpose. Mr. Caesar said, “It’s not ok, but when you keep telling them to stop, they know they will get a reaction out of you." That is why some teachers don’t react negatively when students curse.
Not everyone agrees. Some believe that Fitz should punish students who swear. For example, some believe that if Fitz is lenient around swearing, students will take advantage of teachers. An eighth grader said, “I think students will take advantage and pretend that it was a mistake. If they're going to be less strict with swearing, they should know when students are lying, so they know when they're not taking advantage.” This, however, is wrong because some students get detention when they say something by mistake. Furthermore, getting an hour of detention for saying something that was a mistake seems unfair.
All things considered swearing should be less strict. Clearly kids can’t control swearing since some students start at a young age.
