The annual 6th-grade tour of Fitz is a tradition that takes place every school year. This year, it landed on January 24th. The tour allows Fitz to show their future students what Fitz has to offer. Many schools like Simmons, Monroe, and Heritage Elementary visited our campus.
When the 6th graders entered our campus, they were first greeted by a drumline performance. Drumline was ready for the 6th graders, and they played some of the songs they had practiced. After they heard drumline perform, they were escorted to the Multipurpose Room. In the MPR, the 6th graders learned a bit about Fitz and its staff. Ms. Cook, Mr. Magaña, and Mr. Gomez introduced themselves to the students. They learned about the classes, electives, and after-school activities that Fitz offers. After the presentations, Mariachi and performed for the students. The students were very amazed by their performance. A student from Simmons Elementary said, “The performance was excellent. It made me want to join Mariachi.”
After the 6th graders got to see the lovely performances and presentations, they moved on to the most anticipated part of the visit: the tour! The students were separated into groups by their assigned numbers. The tour guides, who were current students at Fitz, guided their groups to both quads and P.E. The students were able to see all the classrooms, who taught the classrooms, and what subject the teachers taught. Outside of some of the classrooms, there were students running booths showing off what electives Fitz has to offer. When the tour groups got close to the booths, the students running the booths were able to communicate to the sixth graders more about the elective. Another student from Simmons Elementary said, “I liked the Journalism booth. It helped me encourage myself to join it since we have more freedom in our writing.”
The 6th-grade visits are essential to both Fitz and the 6th-graders. It benefits both of them because it allows Fitz to show off how amazing their school is and it also allows 6th graders to see what their next two years will be like. It also helps the 6th graders understand how different middle school and elementary schools are.
We hope that the 6th graders will enjoy Fitz next year and we can’t wait to see them thrive at Fitz!
