As the new school year of 2025-2026 kicks off to a great start, the biggest news is Fitz’s latest addition to their classes—the new dance class taught by Ms Combre. With the class just recently having been added, 8th graders who attended Fitz last year are curious: why does Fitz have a dance class? What are the class's origins? And how do the students feel about the new dance class?
The dance teacher, Ms. Combre, has always wanted to teach dance to students. She wanted to teach dance because when she was in public school, dance classes were not available. And when they were being taught dance, it was by their P.E teachers and not an actual dance teacher—and it would only be taught to them for one week. As a result, Ms. Combre decided to teach dance at public schools so that the opportunity would be available for students. Other than Fitz Intermediate, Ms. Combre also teaches at Walton and Ralston Intermediate.
According to Mrs. Cook, Fitz decided to include a dance class in their list of classes this year because they were given the opportunity by the school district to give the students the option to learn how to dance, while still staying active without being enrolled in a regular P.E class. Ms. Combre also claims that, other than dance, the students will also learn about mental health and dance history.
While the dance class is brand new, Fitz students already have positive opinions about the addition and are very excited to learn more in the class. 8th grader, Kaina Ugarteche, says, “I hope to learn how to have better body control and to move more smoothly. I also want to learn more about the different energies in dance.” This will be accomplished due to the different dance techniques and dance movements that the students will learn and get adjusted to. An anonymous 8th grader stated how she ended up in the dance class and how she feels about it. She stated, “It was a whole accident, I thought dance was regular P.E. But I’m not mad about the mistake because I think that dance is fun.” We can see here how the dance class is already very appealing to the students, and how they already enjoy it very much.
The latest dance class is now an amazing part of Fitz Intermediate, and it is already loved by so many students. This class is an amazing experience and opportunity for students to learn more physical abilities, and it will even increase their confidence down the line.
