Now that Thanksgiving break is just around the corner, students can finally get some rest, spend time with family and friends, and partake in some family traditions. Traditions are things that people do after it has been passed down through many generations of their family. Many students will eat specially prepared food like Turkey or ham with their families.
Now that Fitz is having a break, students can celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends, but not all families enjoy the same traditions. For example, some might have a giant meal. Maybe some people are going to spend time with their family, while others may not even celebrate Thanksgiving. Liah Gutierrez, a student at Fitz, says that she does celebrate Thanksgiving; she states that “I do celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends every year." However, some families do not celebrate Thanksgiving. Like Juliette Hopper’s family, which doesn't see Thanksgiving as a holiday. She states that, “My family doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving because they don't see it as a holiday.” As you can see, many people celebrate Thanksgiving, but other people might not celebrate Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving’s most popular dishes are turkey and ham, but not everyone likes them equally. For example, many people love turkey, but they might hate ham. But others might love ham, but they hate turkey. Or maybe they love both turkey and ham. This is important because it shows how other people might like other types of food, and it shows us that not all people like the same things. Mrs. Velekei says that she prefers turkey over ham. She states, "Definitely turkey! Growing up, my dad would BBQ a whole turkey, and it was so delicious.” This shows us how people have other opinions
But food isn’t the only tradition people have. Families celebrate Thanksgiving in all sorts of ways. Mrs. Velekei also says that she does have a family tradition that happens after the meal. She states, “Yes! Our transition is to have a huge family meal and then take a walk to the park where the little ones play while the adults talk and catch up.” Mrs Veleki does this because her family can catch up, and the kids can have fun while the adults are catching up. Also, the fact that Mrs. Velekei prefers turkey over ham and that she has a family tradition every Thanksgiving shows us that people do have traditions for Thanksgiving, and it also shows us that people have different opinions on turkey or ham. All of this proves that people have different opinions and could have different traditions.
All things considered, you should enjoy Thanksgiving. Also, make sure to have fun and make sure to spend time with your family. Also, remember to make every second count!
