Book of Boba Fett Review

Star Wars has returned to the silver screen in the form of their new show Book of Boba Fett. This show started streaming in December and finally concluded in early February. Overall this series felt more of a filler for the overall story of Star Wars than it did feel like its own show and this can be seen through the many tone shifts of the story. Not to say that this was a bad show but it definitely could have taken a better direction.

In this show, we mainly follow Boba Fett and his journey from after the Empire Strikes Back to the current point in the Star Wars story. We start with Boba escaping the Sarlacc pit and even though we knew he escaped from his inclusion in the Mandalorian it was still a long-awaited scene to see. After this, he is taken captive by the Tuskens and is held as their prisoner. He is forced to do work for them until he saves one of their young from a sand monster and after that, he is fully accepted into their tribe. From here Boba teaches the sand people about modern ways and how to fight back against the people who have been fighting with them. All of these scenes are shown as flashbacks to the main story because in the main plot Boba is trying to control the land that Jabba had control over but is running into issues with a criminal gang called the Pike syndicate. A lot of the show does feel a bit repetitive as the plot of the first few episodes is more or less the same with Boba trying to gain control of more territory, and this leads the first few episodes to be some of the weaker ones of the series. This trend continues until the biggest tone shift of the entire show, that being episode 5. This and the following episode are the two episodes with the biggest tonal shift of the whole series. The reason for this is because these 2 episodes are solely focused on the Mandalorian, who previously to this point hadn’t shown up in the show. Despite the complete change in the direction these two episodes quickly became the best of the series, once again showing that the Mandalorian is truly one of the best things to come from Star Wars in a long time. These episodes follow Din Djarin, the Mandalorian, and his conflict with the darksaber and his relationship with Grogu. While these episodes feel very out of place and are more of a Mandalorian Season 3 than a Book of Boba Fett episode they are very enjoyable to watch. The finale is one of the better episodes of the series as Cad Bane is brought back after being shown for a brief scene in the previous episode and seeing him in live-action is something that the fan base has been wanting to see ever since we first saw him back in the Clone Wars tv series. The ending is satisfying with it tying up all the loose ends and somewhat concluding Boba’s story.

All in all the Book of Boba Fett is worth a watch if you haven’t already and while there are bigger Star Wars projects set for this year that will almost definitely overshadow this series it was still a good story to tell and is a joy to see. The Book of Boba Fett can be streamed on Disney +
