Facetime with Big Brother

Yesterday around 7:00 pm people on Twitter were freaking out after finding out that you could hear a person's conversation without their consent via Facetime. People were angry and scared as they began to disable their Facetime app while everyone was trying to figure out what was going on.

The steps were simple in order to abuse this Facetime bug:

  • Start a Facetime call with an Iphone contact.
  • While dialing add a person by swiping up.
  • Add your own phone number (make sure you have it as a contact).
  • You will then be able to hear yourself and the audio of the person originally called, even if they haven’t accepted the call.

It would look like the other person has joined the group chat, but on their actual device it will still be ringing on the Lock Screen. It is said to work on Iphones or Ipads running IOS 12.1 and Apple PC running MacOS.

As of a few hours ago Apple has decided to take drastic measures and instead of fixing the bug they have decided to pull Facetime group chats altogether which left many disappointed as this was a frequent used option in Facetime.

But, perhaps it's for the greater good because the concept of having someone listening in is chilling to think about.
