After Avengers Endgame and Spiderman: Far From Home, the Marvel Cinematic Universe had come to a sad Phase 3 ending, however it led to much excitement and curiosity as fans and viewers were yearning for more answers. The MCU had announced that they would launch their Phase 4 with Disney+ original series that would include WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If…?, Hawkeye, and many more. WandaVision was the first series to begin streaming and Marvel Studios released two episodes on Friday, January 15, 2021, kicking off Phase 4. After those two episodes, an episode was released every Friday on the streaming service Disney+. The next series that was launched was The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which began on March 19, 2021. Both series had lived up to their hype and led fans to become very intrigued by how the Loki series will play out.

The show will follow up with the aftermath of Avengers Endgame after we see that when the Avengers go back in time to the year 2012, after the fight with the Chitauri and Loki in Manhattan, to retrieve the Tesseract which contains one of the infinity stones, the space stone. After Tony Stark gets the Tesseract, a door that the Hulk whips open from walking down the stairs smashes him, leading to the Tesseract being dropped and falling right into Loki’s hands. We then see him disappear and teleport himself using the Tesseract, however fans were curious about what would happen next. In Avengers Infinity War, we must sadly watch the opening scene where Loki dies. This takes place in the aftermath of Thor: Ragnarok where we see a development of Loki doing more good deeds and caring about his brother, Thor. In this series, we will not be seeing the Loki that grew on us through those movies previously mentioned. The Loki we will see will have no recollection of those events as they haven’t happened to him yet. It will be very interesting for audience members and fans to see how Loki will be portrayed as we get to see him closely in this series that revolves solely around him.

In the trailer we see how Loki gets captured by an organization called the TVA, Time Variance Authority. By Loki taking the Tesseract in 2012, he altered the timeline and created numerous separate branches of time. The TVA wants his help in fixing it as they know the skill set he possesses and want his unique perspective. In the trailer we can see clearly that nobody trusts him as he is Loki, the God of Mischief and a huge trickster. We see Loki in many outfits throughout the trailer, such as a prison jumpsuit, a nice tuxedo, and a costume that makes him look very comic book accurate. Besides Loki in the trailer, we are introduced to a lot of new and unfamiliar faces such as Mobius M. Mobius, who looks like the main person in charge of watching over Loki and joining him in fixing the timeline. We see them traveling to different points in time and some other strange places that have unique colors and layouts that don’t look like normal Earth. Even though we see such precaution in the trailer by the TVA with Loki, he still seems to outwit them and it will be very interesting to see where he’ll be able to take himself next and how this will affect the future projects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, MCU.

The visuals in this trailer were incredibly spectacular as we saw many different colors and effects that captured so much of the viewer’s attention. The sounds and music of the trailer were very ominous and action packed as there is still a mystery about what is going on in this show and what is going to happen. Compared to the two previously released series: WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, that took place on Earth, the Loki series looks like it will also take place in space alongside Earth. Overall, the Loki trailer seemed very impressive and gave the audience a taste of the different direction that Marvel Studios can take being in their fourth phase of the MCU. It was very interesting to see that the series will contain mystery, intensity, action, and some humor.

Loki will be the third released Marvel series that will be exclusively streamed on Disney+ starting Friday, June 11, 2021.
