North Hollywood follows the character Michael (Ryder Mclaughlin) as he comes across the next big step after high school that every high school student faces when they graduate: what’s next? Michael’s two best friends in the movie have already figured out the big question, one is heading to college and one is heading to work, but Michael is stuck in a jam. He’s an aspiring professional skateboarder, with the skills to back it up, but his blue collar father, Oliver (Vince Vaughn), feels that Michael’s dream is just a dream. Oliver wants Michael to head towards the pathway of college and get his degree, or join him in the construction business. During the film Michael considers many things: Should he go to college and get a job? Should he chase his dream or go for the girl? Should he take his own pathway or his dad’s? Since Michael is torn in multiple directions and he doesn’t know what his next move will be, and if it will hurt his friends and family or not, Michael starts building relationships with other pro skateboarders to head in the pathway of following his dream. Although this decision causes a rift on Michael’s personal life, he eventually gains the love and support from his family and friends, including his dad. Set against the backdrop of the eponymous Los Angeles neighborhood, North Hollywood is a humorous and touching piece of life that brings together a cast of established actors with real professional skateboarders to tell a genuine story.
