In the time of COVID-19 and summer close by, there may be some hesitancy and questions on what we can do safely. Luckily, we are also in a time of vaccines, and L.A. County is expected to reach herd immunity by the end of July if vaccination rates continue their current momentum. On top of that, we have entered the yellow tier in California’s blueprint for reopening. Here are a list of fun things you can do this summer safely:

1. Go to downtown Covina for their farmer’s market. Located at Heritage Park, it’s open every Friday night from 5-9 PM.

2. Shop at the Plaza West Covina shopping mall. If you’re a senior, you can go shopping for a new wardrobe for college if you’d like.

3. Enjoy a bike ride and stroll at Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park and feed the ducks there. This is personally my favorite park nearby because of the scenery on hikes, the animals there, the bike trails, and all the space to social distance.

4. Go for a hike at Galster Wilderness Park Nature Center with your family and enjoy some quality family time.

5. Treat yourself to the famous Boba Tea Lounge on a hot day. Get a smoothie or slushie with boba if you want an extra cool drink.

6. Walk and play with your dog at Del Norte Park.

7. Take up a new hobby, such as learning a new instrument, how to bake/cook, etc.

8. Go camping with your family. Some parks, like Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park, have a spacious area specifically for RV and tent camping guests open right now.

9. Have a picnic at the park with your favorite food. You’ll be outdoors, so you can watch the sunset from a nice view, too.

10. Now that the Fourth of July is near, there are many options you can do with your family: have a barbecue, host a backyard movie night, make s’mores, and so much more!

11. Have a DIY spa day at home and safely relax in style.

12. Start a garden or get a house plant to take care of.

13. Sing karaoke with/in front of your family.

14. Take a road trip with your family to places you want to explore and make sure to follow COVID-19 safety protocols along the way.

15. Learn a new language. A great way to learn is through a language app, and you can never learn too many.

16. Make a list of movies/tv shows you want to watch, and watch all of them.

17. Start saving for college. No matter what grade you’re in, college will come sooner than you think, so it’s important to grow your savings.

18. Rent a kayak or boat with your family and take pictures of the scenery.

19. Practice your photography skills with a Polaroid, cell phone, etc. Take pictures of your family, nearby tourist attractions, outdoor scenery, and more.

20. Try a new sport that you would not normally do.

21. Spend the summer safely doing what makes you happy and get excited for the upcoming school year, whether you are going off to college or continuing your CHS education. Go Colts!
