Eternals is currently the newest movie in the MCU being the 26th film released. It was first released on November 5th 2021. Currently the movie has brought in more than 300 million dollars. The premise of the film is that long ago many eternals were sent to Earth to protect humans from monsters called deviants that are trying to hunt them down. Although the Eternals can fight the deviants they aren't allowed to interfere with human conflicts. in addition, to this all the Eternals have different distinct powers from super speed to mind manipulation.

Before the movie was released it received many bad reviews from critics and it is currently the lowest scored MCU movie on Rotten Tomatoes by critics coming in at 48 percent. Although in contrast it has a 78 percent rating from the audience and this is a much better measure of the movie than what the critics would suggest. Besides the low scores from the critics, the movie also received backlash from the general public for including a gay couple. In all truth, this was blown way out of proportion as it had little to no effect on the overall plot of the movie and it was only included in a few scenes and not expanded upon. Another thing that this movie suffered from was a lack of marketing. Leading up to the release of the movie not many advertisements promoting it were showing up, of course there was the occasional commercial or online advertisement, but overall there wasn’t much coverage of it. This seems to be a trend with new MCU movies where they don’t get many advertisements. Such as with Shang Chi there wasn’t much news about it until it came out in theaters and the only real news was about how it did better than expected. Also with Spiderman No Way Home up until recently there wasn’t much official promotion of it. This has led many die hard fans of it to try and get any information about it as they could and not surprisingly this led to many spoilers and rumors being leaked. Perhaps Marvel thinks that their movies can promote themselves and with Spiderman that may be true with the majority of their new films they can’t hold up as well as Spiderman can. This may be due to many people becoming somewhat bored of superhero movies as it does seem that the media has become increasingly oversaturated with this type of content, or perhaps people have become fed up with the Marvel formula in how they make movies and want something different. In any case, if something doesn’t change movies similar to Eternals will be overlooked and passed by.

In conclusion, although this movie didn’t receive the best reviews from critics and can feel like the forgotten middle child with Shang Chi and Spiderman No Way Home releasing so close to it, this movie is still worth a watch as it was entertaining and it opens up the world of the MCU a bit more and sets up future Marvel projects. Eternals can still be watched in theaters.
