On March 5th, 2021, Lionsgate Films had released a new sci-fi film called Chaos Walking. Based on the first in a trilogy of young adult books by Patrick Ness, Chaos Walking is a science fiction western movie set on a colonized planet where men’s thoughts can be heard and seen by others, which is called "The Noise." This movie has created many mixed signals from the audience as well as various critics.

This dystopian adventure stars Marvel’s Spider-Man, Tom Holland, and Daisy Ridley from the Star Wars franchise. Some other familiar faces in this film include Mads Mikkelsen, Nick Jonas, and David Oyelowo. This cast somewhat makes up for the confusing storyline that the audience perceives on the big screen.

The plot of the movie consists of the idea that all men are living on an extraterrestrial planet in the future with no women in sight. The audience was told that the indigenous population wiped out all the women on the planet during a war between themselves and colonizers. It was not until a spacecraft crashed onto their land, with a sole survivor, a woman. The description of the plot sounds more interesting than watching the movie itself.

Chaos Walking sets out on an interesting journey that had much potential in the long run, but the plot barely delves into the backstory of the futuristic setting. There is a lot of detail that could have been added into the film in order for it to become more intriguing, but this adventure badly bungles its premise and limps towards the finish. The film is less than two hours long, and it tries to cover as much ground as a season of a television show while pacing itself like a trailer.

Overall, Chaos Walking felt pretty rushed and confusing at times but had a lot of potential in becoming a more rewarding film. It lacks much complexity and felt like a half-hearted attempt in an adventure sci-fi film with very little planning or organization. It was pretty disappointing, to say the least, but somewhat slightly enjoyable if you love Tom Holland or Daisy Ridley.
