Ever been unable to sleep on a school night? It can be annoying when you can’t stay awake during a lesson and can even get you in trouble. Let's look at some tips on how to fall asleep, so we can stay awake in class.

ABCs

Whenever you’re trying to fall asleep, think of an animal that starts with A and keep going through the alphabet until you reach the letter Z. It can help tire you so you rest soundly.

Read

Reading a book an hour before bed can help you avoid using any phones or laptops. It can be any kind of reading as long as it's a book and not a screen. The bright light from everyday screens can have an effect on how you sleep. Try to read at least an hour before bed and stay off your devices.

10-3-2-1-0 Rule

It is a rule that anyone can follow. It includes:

  • 10 hours before bed: No caffeine
  • 3 hours before bed: No food
  • 2 hours before bed: No work
  • 1 hour before bed: No screen time
  • 0: to never hit any more snooze buttons in the morning

These steps can help ensure a good rest.

Write it down

If you’re still bugged and can’t go to sleep, write down all your thoughts on a piece of paper. It can help you get out all the stress that is keeping you awake.

Solving the Problem

According to Sleep.org, ’’Nearly 80 percent of adolescents don’t get the recommended amount of sleep on a regular basis.’’ Teens usually sleep seven and a half hours when they actually need 8-10 hours of sleep to stay active in the day. So the recommended time to fall asleep is 9:00 pm. Because of this, a new law is being debated among lawmakers to restrict high schools from starting any earlier than 8:30 am.

This will help students have more time for sleep and be active during the school day instead of sleeping through first period.
