Daft Punk Announces Retirement

After a long 28 years of running as a duo, Daft Punk have split. They announced their split with an eight-minute video titled “Epilogue." In this eight-minute video they used clips from their 2006 video “Electroma." Daft Punk's longtime publicist Kathryn Frazie had confirmed that the duo had split, but there is still no reason why the duo split. Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter formed Daft Punk in Pairs in 1993. Daft Punk is one of the most popular duos out there! They have inspired many artists across the world.

In September 1997, Daft punk released their very first album Homework. On their first album Homework, “Around the World” and “Da Funk” became one of their most popular songs in that entire album. From 1999 Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter began to take on robot personas, they would often be seen wearing gloves, outfits, and it would be hard to get interviews with Daft Punk or even have them televised.

On March 12 2001, Daft Punk released their second album Discovery. Discovery did way better than their first album Homework. Discovery hit number 2 in the United Kingdom. Daft Punk had three popular songs in the UK with “One More Time” being the closest to topping the UK’s singles chart, their second most popular song was “Digital Love”, and their third most popular song was “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.” The number 1 song in the USA club play charts was “Face to Face” by Daft Punk. A couple months later on October 1 2001, Daft Punk released their first live album titled Alive 1997.

On March 14 2005, Daft Punk released their third album Human After All. This album received a lot of mixed reviews. There were a lot of critics saying that this album was a repeat of their previous albums.

On May 21 2006, Daft Punk released their first ever film at the Cannes Film Festival titled Electroma. Two years later Daft Punk released their second live album titled Alive 2007. "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" was their most popular song in that album, it even led them to win a grammy award.

On May 13 2013, Daft Punk released their fourth and final album Random Access Memory. The album included many musicians like Giorgio Moroder, Panda Bear, Julian Casablancas, Todd Edwards, DJ Falcon, Chilly Gonzales, Nile Rodgers, Paul Williams, Nathan East, and Pharrell Williams. Random Access Memory also was Daft Punk's first and only album to get to the top of the US Billboard 200. They sold over 339,000 copies in the first week. It later got certified platinum. Their most popular song in Random Access Memory was “Get Lucky." Topping the charts in over thirty countries and it also was one of the best selling digital singles of all time.

On January 26 2014, Daft punk received several grammy awards. The awards they won were: Album of the Year, Best Dance/Electronica Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
