Now that May’s here, seniors have officially committed to a college. Congratulations! Our four years of hard work have truly paid off. Many colleges have a freshman to-do list, so feel free to check for that after reading this. Here are a few general steps seniors need to take after committing:

STEP 1: Keep up with the “Class of 2021” and “Class of 2021 Counseling and College and Career Center” Google Classrooms to make sure you are up to date with important information.

STEP 2: List the college you plan to attend on your Naviance account ASAP so that your counselor can send your official transcript to that specific college. Information on this can be found on the Google Classrooms or you can email your counselor for help. If you participated in a dual enrollment class, you need to make sure to send your college transcript as well.

STEP 3: Set up your college email account, which is where you will receive ALL email correspondences once you have committed instead of your personal email address like before. You can do this through your campus’s portal. Once you have done so, make sure to check it regularly.

STEP 4: Sign up for freshman orientation. It is necessary that you attend since you will officially be a student of that college. This event will happen in the summer and will cover your college’s campus and traditions, fall classes, academic advisors, etc.

STEP 5: Complete and submit any forms/applications your college requires from you by their appropriate deadlines. These can include your Statement of Legal Residence (SLR), your housing contract/application and meal plan selection (if you are dorming), your family contact information form, etc. You can find this information and more on your college’s official website or online portal.

STEP 6: Make sure to submit all of your final test scores, including your AP scores and ACT/SAT exam scores. Depending on what AP scores your college accepts, you can earn credit for certain classes and/or accelerated placement. If applicable, register for any placement tests you need to take.

STEP 7: Submit your college’s immunization requirements once you meet them. To complete the online immunization record, you log onto your college’s student health portal. If their requirements are not met, you will need to contact your medical provider.

STEP 8: Evaluate any financial aid offers you received from your college and reach out to your college in case your financial situation has changed. Research all the financial aid options available BEFORE you accept any.

STEP 9: Make the time to quickly follow your college on social media such as Instagram, Twitter, etc. That way, you stay up to date on their important events, announcements, and dates. Do more than just follow the official college - follow their account for your major, any clubs you are interested in, etc. Branch out!

STEP 10: Enjoy your last summer before college! Spend time with your family and friends and make the most of summer right down to the very last second!
