This year, the musical A Chorus Line will be performed with the combined talents of Covina and South Hills high schools. This show follows a group of dancers trying out to be in the chorus, the background dancers on Broadway. The show opens with an elimination that leaves the top seventeen dancers to compete for eight slots in the chorus. The cast is varied with some dancers reaching the end of their career and others just starting.

However, this isn’t a normal audition. Zack, a choreographer who knows several of the auditionees, wants to hear about their lives rather than the shows they have been in. The dancers are reluctant to share at first, but as they open up, the audience begins to see each of their distinct personalities. A Chorus Line provides an insiders view of the life of a Broadway dancer.

The dancers talk about growing up and touch on stories about puberty, parents, and dreams. Bobby tells of the outrageous ways he tried to get people’s attention. Mark shares his embarrassing talk with a priest. Connie complains about how her height dictates her life. Each dancer has a uniquely entertaining past which will bring laughter, tears, and smiles to every face in the audience.

A Chorus Line is a funny and heartwarming story filled with honesty and hope. Join them as they leave their life and livelihood on ‘the line’ on 1/25-1/17 and 2/1-2/3 at 7:30 in South Hills’ theater. Tickets cost $12 or $10 with an ASB card.

The musical is rated PG-13 for language and topics of discussion. Based on the real stories of Broadway dancers.
