October is here and Halloween is just around the corner. It’s time to shop for costumes and decorate houses with monsters for one of everybody's favorite holidays of the year. We know Halloween for trick or treating, spooky films, and most of all, haunted houses. With Los Angeles brimming with attractions, it’s tough to choose where to go this season. In Universal City, Halloween Horror Nights has taken over the park, while as in Disneyland, Mickey’s Halloween Party will have the younger children screaming with joy the entire night. The scariest part of these attractions is also the downside: the price. Horror Nights costs over eighty dollars per person for a Saturday in October and Disneyland? Well, you already know.

Luckily for you, Covina has a well known local Halloween house! I’m talking about the Macdevitt Manor Haunted House.

The Macdevitt Manor in Baldwin Park is a haunted house put on by Kennedi Higgins and her family every year. This Halloween's theme is spiders, arachnophobes beware. Previously, the Higgins family has done Freakshow and Dollhouse themes and these are hard to top in production value, but when I interviewed Kennedi about what to expect for this year’s house, she responded with some exciting answers:

Q: How long does it take to design this kind of project?

A: “It takes a very long time to design the house because you have to design and buy lots of props to make the actual house. We actually started this house right after last years house.”

Q: What should we expect from the layout of the house?

A: “The layout is going to be smaller than our last houses, but only because it’s going to be scarier and better than last year’s.”

Q: Who helps with designing and working in the maze?

A: “It is mainly my family who does the designing and construction of the house. My dad is the mastermind of all this, so he comes up with the theme and design and we just do what he wants.”

Q: What would you say to those interested in coming this Halloween?

A: “I would say, be ready to laugh your way through it because it’s going to be super fun. Also to channel your inner spider.”

INFESTATION by Macdevitt Manor will be open October 26th and 31st, November 1st and 2nd from 7-10pm. Stop by and visit to have a fun filled night with the hairy creatures crawling all over the halls of Macdevitt Manor.
