Date: 19th dynasty (Redford 2013: 175-178).
Length: --
Colours: Blue (Pellegrini 1902: 153).
Findspots:
Unknown examples of this type or # 588 from TT 188. Also, one or two of Mahu's cones were found in TT 192 (Davies 1923c: 136).
Each one from behind American house (Davies's house), in TT 188, in TT 49, and also probably in TT 55 (01-284 in Davies's notebook).
A total of 27 (or 28?), as well as variants, from TT 188, -49-, and its environs (Redford 2013: 175, 179-180).
Remarks:
The ascribed owner is identical to that of # 588 and both cones have their respective variant types (Redford 2013: 179).
In Davies & Macadam's catalogue, Index A introduces the owner's title as sAwty-pr-HD and his name as (x?)nsw. However, in Index B of the same book, the owner's title is listed as sAwty pr-HD n nsw, and his name is (m)H.
A. Redford argues that the owner's tomb as -49- (Redford 2006: 102). One reason for this is that a fragment of a statue depicting Mahu and his wife Maita was found at the location (Ibid.: 221-222).
For more details about Mahu, see Redford 2013: 175-178.
Davies suggests that # 269 of Daressy's catalogue was incorrectly depicted and is actually identical to this cone (Davies MSS in the Griffith Institute).
Blue painted cones are a rarity. There are only a few known examples, including # 100, # 204, # 228, # 292, # 504, # 538, # 559, # 587, and # 650/B.23.
