Daressy #: 110
Owner: TT 155 Intef

Transliteration: jmAxy xr jnpw tpj Dw=f wHmw-nswt jn-jtj mAa-xrw

Date: Hat - T. III (Papyrus preserved in the Louvre (E. 3226) states that Seshi or Neshi, who had # 138 that presumably was made by the same person, was in his office in the year 30 of Thutmose III (Megally 1977: 271-273). Auenmüller also dates this cone to the same period (Auenmüller 2013: 895). Polz, however, dates it to Hat. Polz 2007: 291).
Length: --
Colours: Red face (Munsell: 7.5R 5/8) and grey body (Munsell: 7.5R N 4/0. Naguib 1987 [BSÉG 11]: 78).
Findspots:
Together with # 182 , 12 from the tomb A. 2 (Gauthier 1908 [BIFAO 6]: 127–128).
Together with # 182, 50 from the north of TT 155 (01-133 in Davies's notebook and 04-003 in Macadam's Green file).
One from the 'tombeau suspendu' in the Valley of the Kings (Gabolde et al. 1994 [BIFAO 94]: 180, 226, Pl. IX). Gabolde et al. suggest that this example was later used as a stopper for a jar because it was found among the broken remains (Gabolde et al. 1994 [BIFAO 94]: 226 n. 97).
Remarks:
The ascribed owner is identical to that of # 182.
The handwriting on both cones, # 139 and # 182, is identical, as are their dimensions, design, and contents. It can be inferred that the maker of the two cones is the same, and that they were created at the same time. Intef wished to mention both Osiris and Anubis, so he made two cones. One of the two cones may have been positioned at the right half of the façade, while the other cone, bearing a different type, was set at the left half.
This cone also appears to have been formed on a turning wheel (see 01-133 in Davies's notebook and 04-003 in the Macadam's Green file). Note, however, that the one in the Brooklyn Museum (acc. no. 16.580.216) does not appear to have been made on a wheel).
Other hollow cones like this are # 134, # 138 and # 215. Davies states that # 550 also has a hollow body, but the inner wall is very rough, so it was not made with wheels. It was also known that one of the many examples of # 406 has a hollow body with a concentric track inside (Kondo et al. 2017: 53, 55).
Vivó thinks that the internal cavity of # 139, # 406, and # 550 were not intentional but accidental (
