Owner: TT 86 Menkheperreseneb
Reasons: Inscription and provenience
Transliteration: Asjr jrj-pat HAtj-a xtmw-bjtj Hm-nTr tpj n jmn mn-xpr-ra-snb mAa-xrw

Date: T. III
Length: 11.2 digits (Pellegrini 1902: 147), 12.0 digits (Kuhn 2010: 273, Fig. 3), 12.4 digits (Monnet Saleh 1970: 46) or 13.9 digits (Uranić 2007: 102) (Arheološkog muzeja u Zagrebu: 206), 12.5 digits (CAA 1991: # 1668), 12.5 digits (RMO: AT 96f), 12.9 digits (BM: EA 65138).
Colours: Faces of some examples are white (e.x. ROM: 993X2.74, 993X2.87, 993X2.94) while those of others are red (e.x. ROM: 993X2.84). As for their bodies, 993X2.84 has a clear line between red and white and is neatly painted but 993X2.74, 993X2.87, and 993X2.94 have been painted in a rather rough way. See them in the Image Gallery section below. One example only is said to have blue colouring over the ruddle of the face. Cones preserved in the Petrie Museum have blue over white over red (? 01-052 in Davies's notebook and 03-039 in Macadam's Red file). Red slip (Goddard 2012: '1951.55').
Findspots:

One from TT 103 (01-052 in Davies's notebook and 03-039 in Macadam's Red file).
Two from TT 87 (Guksch 1995: 120).
Two from TT 29 (Tefnin & Bavay 2008 [ASAE 82]: 368).
Three from TT 46 (Redford 2010: 368).
Two from TT 99 (Strudwick and Strudwick 2016: 53).
Remarks:
Blue painted cones are rare. We have so far # 100, # 204, # 228, # 292, # 504, # 538, # 559, # 587, and # 650/B.23 as similar examples.
993X2.84 appears to have been made and painted by a different person to those of 993X2.74, 993X2.87 and 993X2.94.
There is a possibility that # 388 also belonged to TT 86.
Two examples of our cone are reportedly located in Bucharest, Romania. One is held at the Institute of Archaeology in Bucharest (Inv. no. E 120. Cihó 1983 [GM 69]), and the other is held at The National History Museum, Bucharest (Inv. no. 121494. Kuhn 2010: 273, Fig. 3). Both objects are from the private collection of Mihail C. Sutzu. At first glance, both objects appear identical, but their lengths differ: 3.8 digits (incomplete, see Cihó 1983 [GM 69]: 17) versus 12.0 digits (Kuhn 2010: 273, Fig. 3). It is currently unclear whether the two objects are truly identical.
