Colours: Red over yellow on the face and 2.0 digits of the stem (01-087 in Davies's notebook). Macadam states 'The colour of the ruddle varies somewhat. Of the two Davies cones, one has red, and the other orange. Davies remarks 'Some of Mond’s practically yellow, some red, some red and yellow' (Macadam Collection 01-087 and 04-093) 'Yellow (Collins 1976 [JEA 62]: 34; ROM: 993X2.88). Red head (ROM: 993X2.88). The entire body was painted red (Ivanov 2021: 39).
Findspots:
136 from the court of TT 23 (Collins 1976 [JEA 62]: 34).
Many from the 'Mond's magazine (= inner hall of TT 96. See Mond 1904 [ASAE 5]: 100. 01-087 in Davies's notebook and 04-093 in Macadam's Green file)'.
One from TT 47 area (Kondo 2017, October 29).
Two from TT 23 (Ivanov 2021: 39, 46).
Remarks:
Such a large number of cones had been discovered, but Mond's excavation at TT 23 had collected a total of more than 277 examples of 21 types (Collins 1976 [JEA 62]: 34). This could be a 'dumping place' for cones, so we should not take this number at face value.
However, this cone may have been related to Wah (TT 22) as the tomb is adjacent to TT 23. Unfortunately, the surviving texts found in TT 22 do not show the name of Wah's wife, so there is currently no solid evidence.
As for the accession number of an example preserved in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Davies first wrote it as '15/2/49' but later revised it to '15/5/49' and Macadam followed it (01-087 in Davies's notebook and 04-093 in Macadam's Green file). However, the official MET website says the correct number is 15.2.49.
Davies had a brick (01-087 in Davies's notebook and 04-093 in Macadam's Green file).
