Findspots:
This cone was discovered alongside # 347 at the site of two tombs believed to have belonged to high-ranking officials from the 12th Dynasty. The site is located at Ed-Dêr, on the east bank of the Nile, three kilometers north of Esna. Surrounding the tombs, the ground was filled with similar cones (Sayce 1905 [ASAE 6]: 163-164).
Remarks:
This cone and # 347 appear to have originated from the tombs above. The similarities in the names and titles suggest that the owners were most likely brothers.
Daressy believed that 'Agen' was located near Matan (Daressy 1888 [Rec. trav. 10]: 140-141), a theory later supported by Sayce due to the proximity of Ed-Dêr to Matan. Additionally, Daressy noted that the name 'Agen' is still present in the name of the Wadi, Gin (Sayce 1905 [ASAE 6]: 164).
Colleen Manassa, Director of the Yale University Moalla Survey Project, asserts that the project-designated site 'M08-09/S1' is a part of Agen (Manassa 2010: 40).
