The Brunswicker-class development projectwas started in 2367 at the Utopia Planitia Shipyards, Sienar Division. Starfleet required a large carrier-type vessel that could carry auxiliary craft such as shuttlecraft, fighters, and runabouts, and cargo. The designers at Sienar took the Galaxy-class spaceframe and did extensive modifications. The main shuttlebay was taken and mirrored on the front of the saucer. It was decided to move the bridge down to deck 4, which was re-designateddeck 1. Where decks 1-3 are on the Galaxy- and Nebula-classesare shuttledecks A, B, and C. Another bay was placed on the underside foreof the saucer. Shuttlebays 2 + 3 were attached together to create bay 4.Bays 5 + 6 were created by removing some of the deuterium tanks, and reroutingthe main deflector power supply. Bays 7 + 8 were created by merging 3 ofthe cargo bays together, then splitting the combined bay into two. Thenacelles were moved down to the centerline of the drive section to preventdamage to subspace. Bays 1 + 2 are connected by a removable wall to allowthe ship to serve thru-deck carrier duties when necessary. Bays 5 + 6 arealso connected in this manner.
