ELDRITCH ORTHO-VANE
1 The Eldritch Ortho-Vane is the Ultima Segmentum's most famous lost grand cruiser. Rogue Trader Blacksteiner launched on her maiden voyage in 913M41. The Eldritch Ortho-Vane boasted a giant troop facility ; nano-reclamation pools, a martial arts court and Eldar baths. At decantation from warp-space , the Eldritch Ortho-Vane ’s lookout charged the alarm systems three times and said, “Asteroid right ahead”. The Eldritch Ortho-Vane's remains were discovered after a long search in 986M41, since then several expeditions have returned to the site and explored the wreck. Explorators salvaged the warrant and the Relics of the Bright Apostles.
CARDINAL XENAN
2 The Cardinal Xenan was built at the Ryzan shipyards and was launched in 951M40. She had accommodations for 11,240 passengers, and 15075 elite crew, including ceremonial sister guards. CX was luxurious to the last detail of her structure and was considered the flagship of the Canopian Rogue Trader dynasty. On 956M40, while navigating through a dense ionic fog, under the command of Lord Captain Xelamai Canopus, the Cardinal Xenan and the Imperial freighter, Wraitholm, collided. This disaster has no logical explanation. It could have and should have been avoided, but auspex readings aboard both vessels were misinterpreted. Only 760 survivors were found, including the sisters contingent. The conjoined hulks still founder in the Halo of Contemptior.
PRAETORIO DEATH-MARCH
3 The 1310 meter Adeptus cruiser Praetorio Death-March foundered out of warp-space off Basidrond Triacus, in the Segmentum Solar during a warps-squall in 867M41. Today, the wreck of the Praetorio glides in two pieces in a mix of Trojan asteroids sloping around that minor sun. The PDM was considered one of the best wreck scavenging spots for decades, but is rumored to be played out and haunted now. But then again, a scrounger would spread such rumors to keep others away, am I right ?
CAPTAIN KINCADE
4 The Kincade was a 1264 meter Crandorian Pattern Troop-Carrier . She caught fire and de-orbited with a great loss of life. Many officers and crew went overboard into the freezing void on rescue-pods . The final death toll from the tragedy was huge. Later on vox-cast the harried technician at HQ dramatically announced (completely breaking security protocols) that 10,000 LIVES MAY BE LOST IN BURNING OF THE CPT. KINCADE . An estimated total of eleven thousand dead, besides several hundred injured, is the record of the anti-matter disaster which in olden days destroyed the cruiser Captain Kincade, which was scorched to the void-skin before her Captain succeeded in escaping . The ship itself is just a heap of girders strung out on a nearby moon. But all her contents, and jettisoned rescue-pods, float around the system in clouds of ghostly grimness.
ANGELUS PURGATORIO
5 Built between 509 and 511M41, the Angelus Purgatorio was one of the first ships able to fire an all plasma broadside. Brigadier Henricus Vicanz, described it as, “the fairest flower of all the void-runners that ever launched”. For good luck they took his wife, who broke the champagne bottle on her prow, and installed her in a luxury apartment in the dorsal. The ship marked the transition between the sleeker ships and the Gothic ‘floating castles’ now in vogue. In 545M41, The heavily laden Angelus Purgatorio failed to jump to the immaterium due to an astral squall and rapidly depressurized as engine stresses wrenched the frame , her atmosphere pouring into the void out the stuck-open gun ports. She lost all power & went silent with more than 1900 stormtroopers on her launch decks and only 40 of her 7000 crew survived. Salvage work started the same year the great warship stumbled, rescuing some of the supplies and equipment, but was halted by 550 due to infestation. The woman was never found, but a daemonette looking suspiciously like her still plagues any navigators or psykers who are careless in that star system.
PATER FORGERON
6 When Technarch Erixon conceived his "impregnable battery" he had no idea that it would still be fighting battles a hundred years after his death. In the mid 880s of M39 he struggled to have his concepts approved by distinguished forge-world rulers mired in traditions. But then came the War with Conchellion , and with war always comes technological advancement and the adoption of previously unacceptable innovations. Voxes arrived at Forge-Prime that Conchellion Rebels were building an adamantium ramship that could destroy the Imperial Fleet piece-by-piece with single-handed impunity. Unwittingly, the Chaos Cruiser Vexoriia provided the impetus to goad reluctant tech-priests into funding the construction of a viable opponent. Thus the Pater Forgeron came into being. Then came the battle that forever changed the way naval engineers viewed warship design and ship-to-ship engagement. The Pater Forgeron and the Vexoriia fought to a standstill, neither ship inflicting significant damage upon the other, due to heavy armoring, and lack of boarding ingresses in their designs. Each was nigh invulnerable to the other and to station-based batteries. Both ships withdrew to their tenders, and the battle was resolved planetside. Nevertheless, by the end of that war (902M39) both over-armored battleships were gone: the Vexoraliia’s warp-drive was overloaded by her crew both to prevent capture and destroy an inquisitor’s starbase; while the Pater Forgeron foundered into the warp in an ethereal gale off Solshen XIX. When, where or if the Pater came back to realspace has not been verified. They just do not build ships this way anymore.
CHAPLAIN LONGORIA
7 Sailing from Saturn to Koronus, the pride of the Grey-Knight fleet, LONGORIA, nicknamed ‘the courser of space’, was heavily damaged by a Tau torpedo off the Declosian Abyss, in 915M41. LONGORIA was hit without warning by a negation torpedo fired by a cloaked Tau courier from out of nowhere. She broke up in a matter of 20 minutes and 15,200 men, and women were lost. Of these fatalities, 128 were high-level servants and techs of the Grey Knights. Dozens of chapter serfs, and millions of thrones-worth of equipment and supplies were scattered or destroyed. No marines were lost, since this was a support run, but pallets of anti-daemon ammo were sorely missed.. So much time was wasted on the investigation and revenge efforts, the search failed in the difficult conditions of the abyss, and ship still drifts somewhere.
TERRAN DUOLITH
8 The Terran Duolith was the pride of the navy of Segmentum Pacificus. Described by Commodore Winston as, "a terrific ship and a masterpiece of ad-mech construction," she had the length of three heavy destroyers” However, the maiden voyage of this formidable warship was short-lived. In 942M40, after an eight-day chase in the Menazoid Expanse, Terran Duolith succumbed to attacks from the Orkish squadrons, especially the Flash Nobs. in one of the most dramatic space battles of the sector campaign. Crippled by heavy enemy fire, Terran Duolith tumbled heavily and slid to a halt inside a gravitational anomaly. Only 115 of the 12,200 crew survived. In 389M41, Inquisitor Ballard and his servants finally got a fix on the Terran Duolith's remains, but were too busy on their mission to investigate or salvage.
STELLAR LEXICOM
9 In 975M41, in the most famous ship-loss in Calixian history, the Stellar Lexicom failed to recontact after warp transition in a treacherous condition reaming through the Josian Reach. Thanks to the popular 976 vid-cast by the Tech-Bard Joridium Flacairn, the story of the Stellar Lexicom has reached and maintained legendary status. The gigantic supplies carrier, at one time the only working Universe-class anywhere near Calixis, and holder of numerous tonnage records, was caught up in a vicious warp breach out of Josian , and, after hours of struggling with the engines, psychic feedback, and warp intrusions, it suddenly disappeared from IFF augurs without so much as a single warning or vox-hail from its captain or crew. Many have searched for the hull, but found not even a cobweb from it.
HAVOKAN
10 the Jericho ship “Neuholder Duchess of Havokan” was built with engine augments in Hydraphur in 620M40. She was lost in a speed trial in 632. The Havokan was partially salvaged by the Explorators in 643, but according to Magos Maginor’s TREATISE of the ETHER "Before work could be concluded the marker buoy near the wreckage was carried off by a hive fleet, and the site was never relocated by the techs due to the ensuing campaign against the Tyranids. Three other ships were lost to the bugs as they used the stolen marker to lure in treasure seekers.
PATRICIAN VON ADRANTIS
11 One of the sector’s greatest spaceway mysteries was solved when Explorator Jervais discovered the wreckage of Patrician von Adrantis, lost in 744M40 under the command of Arch-Trader Sir Balchiun. The direct predecessor and inspiration behind Cadia's new flagship, Balchiun's PATRICIAN was the mightiest and most technically advanced vessel to come from those forges. She was lost during an ion storm with all hands and was the last Navy command cruiser to be lost in space with a complete complement of the heavy sun-scatter lances. Two of the greatest admirals in Imperial history, Sir Kaspar di Norrex and Sir Balchiun , had called her their flagship. Research indicates that Balchiun's PATRICIAN disppeared with a substantial amount of gold and platinum thrones aboard. Jervais has been cooperating closely with the Administratum on the project, and all activities at the system have been conducted in accordance with protocols agreed with Ad-Mech Navy officials. Strange conditions and xeno happenings still make the place difficult to manage, so some other brave soul could attempt salvage.
LORD KOPENSKI
12 according to The Sisters Dialogus "The Lord Kopenski was a Badab War-era nuclear-powered caravel that failed to report in 995M41 while carrying a large cargo of osmium, beryllium, and dozens of pallets of throne-gelt and a stunning variety of everyday supplies, possibly from an onboard STC lathe. It was briefly sighted by Rogue Traders in 125M42. En route from Ultima Segmentum to Koronus, with passengers and commercial cargo, the Lord Kopenski foundered in the open space, presumably due to warp anomalies, or possibly engine malfunctions. The passengers and some crew ejected from the failing ship, yet a fortune in coins and high-worth cargo to rebuild the war-ravaged trade-stations vanished near or possibly into the Void Dancer’s Roil. Nearly 14 months later, House Sterling discovered a sensor reading of the Kopenski approximately 100 light years off Corpse-Fortune. The archaeological excavation conducted later that year failed.
