True Secrets of Historical Arkanen

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In orbit around Liavara, the jewel of the Pact Worlds, are three mysterious moons:
  • Melos, an abandoned world, which seems to have undergone a mass extinction, possibly translation event, an exodus called The Taking. as all citizens disappeared.
  • Arkanen,a thriving metro world, that seems to have the original speakers of a language widespread across the galaxy.
  • Hallas, a strange world that hosts lifeforms unlike almost all others, cordoned off by magic long ago.
The Language of Melos was what they now call Arkanen. The well-organized and thoughtful civilization spread far and wide in the cosmos
via Star-Jamming. They did not invent that, but most would say they mastered it completely.
The humanoids of Melos were talented magically and with craftsmanship.
They hired the three-eyed Dirindi and uplifted the Sazarons.
Some call the relationship of the Melosians to the natives of Arkanen as exploitative, but they came out way ahead in the long run.
Everyone who did not want to translate to the next universe was safely transferred from Melos to Arkanen before the last day.
They established dozens of colonies on Class-M Worlds
in the "Starfinder Region" (Central Area of the Galaxy where star systems of a certain age seemingly abound)
These colonies, controlled by a Guild system, then went on to found hundreds more outposts.
The first base, at Silver Ringmount was designated HQ for expansion in the early days of Melos.
Liavara was the spiritual home of humanoids in the Galaxy (many would say), but Ringmount came to prominence because of the centrality and ease of navigation.
When the home race disappeared in ages past, the Guilds formed a "Hexumvirate" The five plus one Regions (Lalande, Euphrosyne, Pallene, Voidfarer, Monoceros, and the Center) were named after the five Starjamming Guilds that arose to prominence, and each managed an "arm of the central galaxy" Later the Center came to be nicknamed the D.A.N.G.
Their widespread colonization is why various subtypes of humanoids and the Arkanen language are so prevalent all around the galaxy.
These guilds, while hated and feared by many, established what could have been a galaxy conquering realm, but somewhere hidden in the Gap is
their breakdown. Pre-Gap, journeys were done via starjamming controlled by Guild Navigators as the norm. Post Gap, anyone with a Drift engine can go where they wish. The dirty secret, is that since Drifting is so much more dependent on guide posts and drift beacons, and star-stones .....
The lie is that some beacons "spontaneously generate", when actually priests of Triune often contract with Starjammers to place new beacons.
People don't like star-jamming anymore, for several reasons:
  • Guilds and Wizards control the aspects of it, and if they don't like you or your politics, they charge astronomical sums
  • Starjamming vessels tend to classic designs, old-timey materials, hand-made workmanship, and have a definite size and capacity limitation.
  • Drift travel is cheaper, both in terms of equipment and training necessary to pilot one.
  • Drift vessels can be humongous, and can be built with factories and modern materials.
  • Starjamming is old-fashioned and esoteric. Drift travel is modern, and convenient.
