Course Description and Goals:
This course provides students about the theoy of ocean-bottom seismometer (OBS) data analysis and application of OBSTOOL, RAYINV, Echos packages. Data analysis will be emphasized at deep seismic data collected offshore Taiwan recently.

Course Schedule (subject to change):
OBS Data Pre-processing (1 week) H
W1 (10%): Relocation and data display (OBSTOOL) Initial Model Building (1 week) Water-bottom interface, sedimentary and crustal models
HW2 (10%): Initial model building (RAYINV) Forward Modeling (1 week) Refracted and reflected rays, arrivals and identification
HW3 (10%): Travel-time picking (OBSTOOL or Echos) OBS Travel-Time Inversion (2 weeks) Inversion parameters, RMS travel-time error, reflection point, ray density Model Optimization and Assessment (3 Weeks) Simplify grids of blocky model, Monte-Carlo uncertainty analysis
HW4 (20%): velocity modelling after travel-time inversion OBS Model Interpretation (8 weeks) Literature study and integration
HW5(30%): Literature Presentation
