Objective:
By the completion of the subject, the student should be able to: - Explain the definition of tourism and describe the growth of the tourism industry; - Identify the tourist-product relationship and various tourist demands; - Understand the nature of tourism service suppliers; - Address the importance of sustainability to the development of the tourism industry; - Discuss the current issues and future development in the tourism industry.

Outline:
This subject is designed to introduce students to the nature and character of tourism operation as well as the role of tourists in shaping the business. It will cover the basic concepts of tourism operation and management. This subject covers five major areas of tourism study, namely, tourism concepts and principles, tourism marketing, sustainable development in tourism, tourism planning and development, hospitality management, and travel agency management. Case studies derived from the existing tourism organizations will be used extensively.
Teaching Method:
This course will be delivered mainly in the form of: - Lecturing; - multi-media; - class discussion; students are encouraged to use English as much as possible in class activities to develop an ability to express ideas.
