Course Description and Goals:
This course is designed to give students hands-on experience after the theoretical course, so that students can have ideas on relevant experimental principles and techniques in future research.
1. Introduction of state-of-the-art biotechnology

Week 1: Basic bioinformatics-Introduction of gene databases and sequence retrieve
Week 2: Basic bioinformatics-Sequence analysis and primer design
Week 3: Plasmid construction (I)- Polymerase chain reaction and ligation
Week 4: Plasmid construction (II)- Transformation of ligation product
Week 5: Plasmid construction (III)- Colony PCR
Week 6: Plasmid construction (IV)- Plasmid purification
Week 7: Introduction of fish cell lines and culturing
Week 8: Transfection of plasmids into a cell line
Week 9: Protein extraction and quantification
Week 10: Western blotting-SDS PAGE preparation, gel running and transfer
Week 11: Western blotting-antibody labeling and signal detection
Week 12: Fish dissection and tissue collection
Week 13: RNA extraction
Week 14: cDNA synthesis
Week 15: Real-time PCR primer design
