Objective: Introduce basic Earth Science concepts through the medium of films and documentaries, facilitating the learning of various aspects such as oceanography, climatology, volcanology, seismology, mineralogy, and environmental science. It is designed to guide students in watching science-related movies and documentaries, discussing the rational and irrational scientific concepts presented within these films. Through visual learning, supplemented by post-viewing classroom discussions and worksheet completion, the course aims to deepen students'' understanding of basic Earth Science concepts, and spark an interest in learning more about Earth Science. Welcome non-Mandarin speakers to join this course. The course will be conducted in both Chinese and English

Week 1-3: Global warming, climate change, ocean current and atmospheric systems (The Day after Tomorrow)
Week 4-6: Earth structure, Earth magnetic field, solar wind, geothermal gradient, Mineralogy, and Magma migration (The Core & Journey to the Center of the Earth)
Week 7-8: Earthquakes, plate tectonics, faults, trench, tsunamis and volcanoes (San Andreas & Sinking of Japan)
Week 9-10: Petroleum resources assessment, petroleum pollution, and Environmental Forensics (There will be Blood & Deepwater Horizon)
Week 11-13: Groundwater contamination and water quality survey (A civil Action & Eric Brockovich)
Week 14-15: Space exploration and computer science (Hidden Figures)
Week 16: Environmental science and sustainable development (Home)
