Four Purposes

Curriculum for Wales - 4 Purposes

What are the 4 purposes of the new curriculum?

The four purposes are that all children and young people will be: Ambitious, capable learners who are ready to learn throughout their lives. Enterprising, creative contributors who are ready to play a full part in life and work. Ethical, informed citizens who are ready to be citizens of Wales and the world

The children in  KS2 began the term by designing their own characters to represent each of the Four Purposes. These designs were shared with the school council members who voted for their favourites. The year 6 children then looked at the statements for each of the four purposes and wrote their own 'Child-friendly statements'. These ideas were then used to create posters that are now displayed in each classroom throughout the school.

Children in Need 2023 - 15th October 2023

This year the families of  Cwmlai helped to raise a grand total of £720 for Children in Need. Members of the school council organised a fun-filled day which included decorating biscuits and taking part in fitness activities.  Well done children of Cwmlai and School Council.

We melted chocolate to make our own Pudsey chocolate bears and made Pudsey hats.

Shwmae Sumae Day - October 2023

We met Seren a Sbarc on Shwmae Sumae day. They are the popular Siarter Iaith characters who encourage primary school children to use more Welsh and feel proud of their language, history and culture. Cwmlai has achieved the Siarter Iaith Silver Award and we are now looking to gain the Gold Award.  Da iawn Cwmlai!

Remembrance Day 2023

We created poppies using crepe paper and lollipop sticks with the help of glue sticks.

Cwmlai raised a massive £615.30 for the Poppy appeal.  Well done to all children in Cwmlai for raising this fantastic amount.

Arthur's Bampy John had previously served in the Armed Forces.  He very proudly wore the poppy Arthur made to the Remembrance Day Service
