Next meeting

Thursday May 7, 2015 7:00 pm

Northeast Police Precinct

Our next meeting will be back at the police Precinct at 6850 Whitten Bend CV. A map is on the web site.

Meeting Details

The meeting topic will be the new Ham Wide Area Network (ham wan) by Michael Knight. Michael will give a description of the new system and how it works.

FreeFest

FreeFest was a great success. We actually made about $120. All estimates indicate our attendance was up over years past. One gauge we use is concession sales. We raised prices a little, but gross revenue went up more than we increased prices.

The final total on our donation to LeBonheur was $3577. This is comparable to last year and a great showing. Thanks to all who sold and bought tickets.

Michael Knight was again our number 1 ticket seller. He sold way over 250 books. We plan to present him with small token our appreciation at the meeting.

Thanks to all those who came out and helped. It was a fun time and now I plan to rest till next year.

The date for 2016 is April 9; so mark it on your calendar.

Dayton

The “great mother” of all hamfests is May 15, 16, 17 this year. We plan to leave on Thursday May 14, and return on Sunday May 17. We will be set up at FW 3110, 3111, 3112. If you go to Dayton come by and say hello.

Repeater News

The Yaesu Fusion repeater arrived on Saturday May 2.

We will check it out and put it in service for testing. The guys in the northeast who are knowledgeable (not plug and play crowd) are reporting some issues with the new Yaesu repeaters. There seem to be some logic glitches. They are also reporting phase noise on transmit and poor receiver sensitivity. All of these would be consistent with older Yaesu repeaters. We’ll soon find out.
