Our June meeting will a tour of the Field Day Facilities at St. James Church. All who are interested are invited. After the very short tour we will have cokes and pizza and plan out what we will do on Field Day.
See map below compliments of Ray Miller, AA4UK. School is on far left facing church from front. Look for large garage rollup entry door and park in parking lot in front of door.
Field Day
For the love of Almighty God, every ham, everywhere is invited to join MARA at Field Day this year. Pass the word!!!
This includes Delta, Tri-State, any other clubs or groups not mentioned, hams not attached to any clubs, hams who voted for Obama, and any hams sleeping under overpasses who would like to participate. We would like for all to come and we damn well mean it !!!!!! Let's get together and have a good time.
Field Day this year is at St. James Catholic Church in the old School building next to the church. It is at 4189 Leroy a very short distance from where the old radio store used to be. It is very large, air conditioned, has commercial bathrooms, easy to get to, with plenty of parking. We originally wanted to have Field Day at the Country Club Estates Clubhouse but one of my neighbors snuck in and reserved it for a big company party on Saturday. We’ll try to get it on the schedule for next year so we will have it as an option.
Field Day is Saturday and Sunday June 22 and 23. We will commence electronic set up on Saturday Morning. We may move food and other creature comfort items in on Friday. This all still needs to be planned.
Those who want to participate need to let us know of interest and if they want to help in the planning. A rough head count is also needed to help us provide food and drink etc. We plan to keep it simple this year and make it as much social as contact related.
We will be the only ones there. Saturday afternoon there is a service in the adjacent church at 4 pm that lasts about an hour and Sunday there is a 10 am service that is also about an hour. This is a small church and the services are small but we will need to be fairly quiet during those times.
St. James is a Catholic church so you will be checked for liquor and if you don't have any, they will give you a beer. Seriously; there will probably be some wine at Field Day but if you want something different; bring it. We’ll have plenty of Cokes and water. Breakfast food will be available on both Saturday and Sunday and sandwiches and snack food will be provided throughout the day. Currently we plan to have fancy hot dogs and hamburgers for dinner on Saturday night.
We also plan to have a testing session at Field Day this year thanks to a suggestion by Bill Stevens who will coordinate the VEs. We will put this in the press notices and set up one of the small classrooms for testing. My son Jackson is excited about the testing and wants to take the Technician test. He is smart enough that he doesn't need to go through one of the Joe Lowenthal schools and is confident that he can pass. Jackson has a strong preference for electronic products and been helping me work on various projects over the past year or so. Dennis Foster and Roger Schlichter have also been tutoring him.
Dayton
Daytonwas great this year. Weather was pretty good. Flea market was full of good stuff as usual. Several old useless hams were on sale but most were boat anchors. Several of us were able to replenish our supply of garage junk. The club purchased a new[used] 900 MHz antenna to replace the squirrely one on WKNO until we can fix it and we also found a fanatical good deal on test sets for the MSF 5000 repeaters. The club bought 3 new ones; one of which was given to Delta for their MSF5000.
