Meeting

The March meeting will be a presentation by David Campbell and Rick ( Cairo ) Tillman. Topic will be either on managing cross linked density of syndiotactic and isotactic high molecular weight acrylic polymers using ethylene glycol dimethacrylate [EGDMA] or a demonstration and introduction to digital slow scan TV. Either should be very interesting. Come to the meeting and be surprised.

Ides of March Hamfest

The Ides of March Hamfest is in Union City on Saturday March 23. Several of us are going up. It is a great hamfest and I have made several good purchases there in past years. It is about a 1 ½ hour drive and you should consider going.

Donated Equipment

Some equipment was recently donated to the club from a ham who is currently quite ill and has been inactive for several years. The equipment is in the mid to late 80’s vintage but is in good condition and most works pretty well. It will be up for sale and I will have lists and prices at the meeting. It will be offered to club members first at a 10% discount. Your dues must be current as of 3-1-2013 to qualify for the discount. Prices are very good and with the discount there are some very good deals. I can send out a separate list if you are interested. It would have made the email too large to attach it to all. Just let me know.

FreeFest

We are filling up and have little more space than last year. Debco cannot make it this year due to a couple health issues in Tom Case’s family so this freed up several tables. Please let us know if you need tables while we have some room left.

Pass the word anyway you can. In local conversations mention it on repeaters and when you travel or talk on long haul nets mention it. I was working on an Atlas 210X from the donation last week and heard 2 guys on 40 meters talking about hamfests and both mentioned they were coming to FreeFest. It works, so get the message out.

The main prize list has been firmed up and the tickets are at the printer. God willing we may have them for the meeting but it will be close. Prize list this year is again off the charts. We will again need your help selling tickets ahead of time and at the door.

Field Day 2013

Field Day this year is June 22 & 23. We had planned to have it at the clubhouse again but one my neighbors snuck in and reserved it for a company function ahead of me. He has several out of town guests or he would have changed with me.

We have secured an alternate place this year. We have permission to use the old school building at St. James Catholic Church at 4180 Leroy. The church is about a mile from the old ham radio store in Berclair. It was a day care center used by United Cerebral Palsy until about a year ago and there is a large unused indoor play facility with plenty of parking available. The indoor area is considerably larger than the clubhouse and is carpeted and air conditioned. There are several offices surrounding the indoor facility that have large glass windows overlooking the indoor area where we can put operating stations. These offices are carpeted and air conditioned with acoustic ceilings. Commercial bathrooms are also located close by across a hall.There is a large 2 acre field next door and another behind the building with several unused telephone poles with only phone lines that aren’t in service. We can use these for antennas. We will probably have a tour prior to Field Day. I hope to have a layout at the club meeting. I am still in the process of clearing out some old equipment left in the building when UCP left. If you would like a 4 or 5 drawer file cabinet in good condition for $10 let me know. I’ll help you load it.
