Please Note New Meeting Date Change to First Thursday
Next meeting is Thursday, May 3 at 7:00 pm
The May meeting will be at the Police Precinct at 6850 Whitten Bend Cove. Map and directions are on the web site.
Program
This month's program will be on the “Neighborhood Watch" program. Betty Seago is the Neighborhood Watch program coordinator for the Memphis Police Department and will give us a short presentation on how it works. The meeting room we use is the Neighborhood Watch classroom that they use to set it up and train folks. If you have a watch program or thinking about starting one this should be a good meeting. In light of the recent events in Florida this may help give some perspective to exactly what watch folks should do.
Software Order
Software is here and Randy will start distributing it at the May meeting. He has downloaded it and will copy it onto discs for distribution.
FreeFest 2012
FreeFest was a great success and many thanks to all the helped out. All I did was coordinate and answer phone you guys did all the rest. We are still sorting out details and I’ll give a brief summary at the meeting on what we have so far. Thanks for all the help. If you have comments or suggestions please email them to me or bring them to the meeting.
The FreeFest date for Next Year is April 13, 2013.
DAYTON
Dayton is coming up. We are leaving on Thursday May 17 and will attend on Friday May 18, and Saturday May 19. I have 2 flea market spots at FW 3111 and FW3112. They are about in the middle of the outside flea market reasonably close to the restrooms, food vendors, porta-potties and next to the raw sewage. Come by and see us if you are going to Dayton.
6 Meter Repeater
We have been tentatively coordinated for 53.450. The notice was sent out to the other coordinators on April 3, and if none of the other coordinators objects it will become effective in 30 days. We will then need to have the crystal elements rechanneled and tune the repeater over to the coordinated frequency from the commercial frequency. All this should take 4-6 weeks if we don’t get into some trouble. We’ll then need to find a home for it. We’ll keep you posted.
444.175 UHF Repeater Update.
444.175 is on the air at my house on a 20 ft pushup. Try and see if you can hit it as I am checking it out. It is only putting out about 20 watts to the antenna and has a PL of 107.2
Free Stuff
I have a printer and a commercial fax copier that are free for the asking. I had some blue light weight tower but finally got it hauled away.
The Fax is a Brother plain paper FAX-4750E. It is a full blown, heavy duty, commercial fax – not one of these lightweight fax machines. It has two paper trays and is a laser black and white unit. I have the owner’s manual for it. It was the main fax at the Orpheum until they bought a new one this past year.
The printer is an HP Professional Series 2000C color printer. It is a heavy duty, commercial office printer that uses 3 color inkjet print cartridges. Aftermarket refill cartridges on Inet range in the $8-10. It has a large 250 page feeder and does around 8 pages per minute. It was the office printer at the Orpheum for many years.
I also have an old DeskJet 640. These are good if you have any old test instruments as they use the PCL character sets that the laser printers do. I use one on my HP 8924C and my HP digital O’Scope. It is slow but good quality. I have 540 black only that I am keeping.
