Mid-South Amateur Radio Association
February, 2012
Please Note New Meeting Date Change to First Thursday
Next meeting is Thursday, February 2 at 7:00 pm
The February meeting will be back at the Police Precinct at 6850 Whitten Bend Cove. Map and directions are on the web site.
Program
Roger Schlichter will give a program on Grounding and Lightening Protection. This is a serious topic and any of you who have ever had a hit or near hit know what I mean. If you ever get a direct or near hit it is nearly impossible to recover the equipment as it weakens several parts that will continue to fail over the coming years.
We are still looking for topics for upcoming meetings. If you have any suggestions or would like to do a meeting please contact one of the officers or board members and let them know.
Software Order
Randy is taking orders for software for this year. Please have your order ready and get it turned in. His plan is to get it on order and have it ready in May if at all possible.
Dues for 2012
Please pay your dues for 2012. Dues are $15 per person or $20 per family. John Parish will be collecting dues at the meeting. Remember; no dues, no software order.
Jackson Hamfest
The Jackson MS., Capital City Hamfest is this weekend in Jackson. Several of us are going down. If you want or need directions see the web page which has maps and information. It is a really good hamfest.
FreeFest 2012
FreeFest is April 14, this year. All notices have been sent out and we need for you to pass the word any way you can. We are also interested in getting some flyers and circulars to local venues like Radio Shack. We’ll have posters at the March meeting. If you need them earlier let me know so I can print them off in 11 x 17.
At this time we are 100% full inside and have several reservations outside. This is ahead of last year. Our prizes are starting to come in. For main prizes we have so far an IPad, 32 inch LCD TV, Icom V-8000, Yaesu FT-2900, $100 gift certificate to Bass Pro, and $100 Gift Certificate to Restaurant Iris. MFJ usually donates a 4225 switching supply but I haven’t had time to talk with Stephen Pan yet.
I have prepared a solicitation letter and LeBonheur is sending it out to their corporate folks. We may get some additional prize donations from them.
John Beyer Donation
John Beyer K3LK has been cleaning out his shack prior to a move and has donated a lot of items to the club to sell. I am preparing a list and will get it out in next couple weeks as soon as the board decides on how they want to handle and price it. We are considering having a club table at FreeFest and if you would like to donate some things to sell please let us know.
