Next meeting
Thursday August 6, 2015 7:00 pm
Northeast Police Precinct
Our next meeting will be back at the police Precinct at 6850 Whitten Bend CV. A map is on the web site.
Meeting Details
Our guest speaker this month will be Keith Miller [ARRL, Tennessee Section Manager]. Keith will give a short presentation on the ARRL and then we will have a short Q&A section so you can voice your ideas and concerns. Keith has been a great help to us here in west Tennessee and we encourage you come out. The meeting will be a little less formal so you can get to know Keith better.
We also plan to have Firehouse® sandwiches, Cokes and chips at the meeting. Come out and plan to eat and visit with Keith.
During September, October and November we have to be out of the Police Precinct. We are working on meeting topics and alternate locations. We’ll keep you posted – STAY TUNED!!
Field Day
Hope all survived Field Day. For a change the weather was spectacular and evened up last year’s horrendously bad weather. We ran 2A with a GOTA and made nearly 1000 contacts. Very close to 100 people visited. Joe Lowenthal ran the GOTA and did a super job getting some of the new folks on the air. When he got Mary on the radio for over 2 hours I knew he had the special touch. Elise Preston from Channel 3 came out Sunday and interviewed a bunch of us and Joe got her on the GOTA station and she made a contact. 6 meters went open and Rick Tillman and gang made 75 contacts on 6 meters. Most of these were DX contacts as well as a satellite contact on Saturday Afternoon. Randy Van Voorhis has submitted our official documents.
Dues
Please pay your 2015 dues if you haven’t. Dues are $15 per member and family memberships for all those in the same household are $20. Active duty military and full time students are free but you must fill out an application. Dues for new hams are free for the remainder of the year they are first licensed. Dues are only prorated for newly joining members.
Officers for 2016
It is not too soon to start thinking about officers for 2016. The club needs new viewpoints and ideas so think about running. If you would like to consider running let us know. If anyone would like to be secretary it would make me very happy. I would volunteer to help out so it would not be too difficult a job. All you need is some basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
