August Meeting

The August meeting will be back at the Police Precinct.

The topic will be a short slide show on the Twin Tower Project by Tony Brignole. I have put up twin towers about 10 ft apart connected with a platform to hold 6 VHF and UHF antennas. This clears up a nest of pushups and mast poles that were unsightly in my yard and allows easy access to work on and change antennas. The slid show will show the progress of the project. Several folks helped and it would not have been possible without their help.

Upcoming Schedule

In September, October, and November we have to meet away from the Precinct because of their Citizens Police Academy Training program. Presently we are finalizing plans for topics and locations for these meetings. The September meeting will be an eating meeting at Patrick’s on Park Ave. More specifics will be provided as we finalize details. We have reserved the new Pool Clubhouse at our homeowners association for the October and November meetings. St. James Church is also under consideration for the November meeting as it is our annual elections. The Pool Clubhouse is a nice facility but it is open air and bad weather could be an issue. So we will decide on the exact location closer to meeting time. Coletta’s has been reserved for our December meeting.

Officers for 2014

It is time to start thinking about officers for 2014. If you would like to run and help out let us know. We appreciate all the help from folks this past year.

Repeater Issues

We have gone from one “ratty ass” repeater in about 2005 to over 11 at present count. We are planning a meeting to formulate a plan of how to go forward. One novel suggestion was to put 2 repeaters on the same frequency so we could talk in stereo. After the planning meeting we will present the plan at a meeting.

Huntsville Hamfest

The Huntsville Hamfest is August 17-18, 2013. If you would like to go Delta has a bus trip that goes over Saturday Morning and returns Saturday night. Contact Joe Lowenthal for tickets.

Field Day

Field Day was great and hope all had a good time. We had over 80 attend and made something like 500 contacts. There was a large 6 meter band opening on Sunday morning and Rick Tillman and the gang made a lot of contacts. We had to stop counting at 1 pm as that was when Field Day officially ended. 6 meter contacts were made all up and down the east coast and other parts of the U.S.
