Manatee

Introduction

Manatees are indicator species who indicate the health of fragile coastal and wetland biomes, particularly that of seagrass meadows. Warming waters, unusually cold winters, water pollution, algae blooms, and seagrass loss all result in lower manatee numbers, as well as less healthy individuals.
