Some people worry that AI is sentient, or that it may judge humanity and intentionally destroy us all. The truth is that even the best AI is more or less a word predicting 8 Ball.
All AI suffer from what scientists describe as "hallucinations" and "dementia", degrading over time from faulty data, and regurgitated "AI slop".
Over time, all AI models begin to deteriorate in ways that (if they were human) would be considered signs of dementia.
Reports of students (especially those who are not native speakers) being falsely accused of using AI to cheat, and of AI being used by teachers in unfair or faulty grading, however problems are now cropping up as teachers or schools increasingly use AI to create lesson plans or educational images.
19:57 minute video explains the misuse of AI for education that culminated in Duolingo firing most employees in favor of faulty and lifeless technology, at the expense of a fun and engaging community of avid language learners.
Students who use AI to help them complete assignments may suffer from lack of new skill creation or skill atrophy for the things the may already have learned.
"AI systems can unintentionally result in unfair discrimination in insurance underwriting by using data sources that have a historical bias or act as proxies for protected characteristics, leading to discriminatory outcomes. It can be difficult to assign responsibility for decisions by AI systems—insurers may be ultimately responsible for their products, but they are not always the parties that are most knowledgeable about the technical details of the underwriting system or most able to shape system design.
Creating a measurable definition of proxy discrimination by AI-enabled underwriting is challenging because insurers can use an underwriting factor if it is related to actual or reasonably anticipated experience and existing standards do not define the threshold for effectiveness of the factor. Therefore, each insurer’s justification for the usage of a factor will be unique. Given the risks posed by AI-enabled underwriting tools and the limitations of current regulatory structures, the insurance industry could face additional regulation and reputational damage if it does not ensure these tools are used responsibly and appropriately." - The American College AI-Enabled Underwriting Brings New Challenges for Life Insurance
If you sew your own clothing, you've probably heard about the "Big 4" pattern companies recently shut down, giving indie pattern makers a new opportunity to shine. However, many patterns currently available on places like Etsy, are AI-created junk that result in nothing more than lost money and frustrated sewers who end up with wasted material when they almost inevitably can't "rescue" their sewing projects.
Online patterns generally have to be printed on paper, then fabric, threat, and other materials such as zippers or elastic are often used. When someone gets half way through a project, or worse, actually finishes it, only to realize they've been scammed by AI, this results in some if not all of those materials being totally wasted.
19:39 minute video shows you what to look out for so you don't get conned or waste materials on these scams.
