PROBLEM:
A section is not perpendicular to what it is cutting through. (See ELEVATION IS NOT PERPENDICULAR TO VIEW for elevations with this problem).
You may notice this when you try and add dimensions to your section view and Revit won't pick them, or Revit crashes.
POSSIBLE CAUSE:
Revit requires sections to be EXACTLY perpendicular. If they are out by 0.0000000012mm you may get errors and crashes:
When placing the section Revit snapped to the wrong element.
What is being cut has been rotated (e.g. a wall's angle has been changed due to a design change).
Sloppy modelling practice leads to walls not perpendicular to each other and/or grids.
SOLUTION:
Sections can be rotated using the rotate command. As the angle may be extremely small it is best to rotate by picking 2 lines rather than typing in a figure.
First draw a line or reference plane matching the angle of the section. Make sure you snap to end points of the section line.
Next draw a line or reference plane which is at the correct angle. If you are trying to align with a wall use the pick tool to create the line.
Move this line so the end of end is at the end of the line over the section.
Use the Split command to cut the line aligning with the wall section so it fits easily in your view.
Then Split the line aligning with the section so it is slightly longer than line aligning with the wall.
Now use the Rotate command to rotate the section.
Select the section. Start the Rotate command, hit the button, Place button, pick the endpoint where the lines meet.
While still in the Rotate command, select the end of the long line (aligning with section), then pick end of short line (aligning with wall).
Done!
