Views can have different Types created for them (much like Families).
There are a number of reasons View types are useful:
Each view type can use a different reference marker so they appear differently on drawings.
Views types can be listed separately in the Project Browser, sorting views into each type.
View Filters can use a view's type name to filter by (e.g. all Family and Type parameters containing "Detail").
Although view type names could be used to identify Working, Sketch and Temporary views (see NAMING VIEWS), it is better practice to use a view parameter like Sheet Series.VW.
However view type names are useful to filter references that appear on sheets. For example all Detail references can be hidden in 1:200 Building sections and Floor Plans, or all Stair sections can be hidden.
