RENAMING PDFS - PRINTING PROCEDURE
Revit uses its own method for naming PDF files, which invariably never suits what we require.
If you are printing multiple single sheets you end up having to rename them all.
This describes a method that renames files after they are printed.
This will not work unless the method has been set up for your project. Refer to SET UP PROCEDURE.
1. Decide or find out which folder your PDFs will be printed to
You need to know where your PDFs are going to be.
If you are using a printer set up to print to a particular folder, make sure you know what that is, and that it exists.
If you are going to set it when printing make sure the folder exists.
You may want to clean old PDFs out of the folder (not necessary but might be less confusing).
2. Export the Revit Schedule
From within your Revit project, via the Project Browser, open a schedule called !RenameSheetList.
Export the schedule: from the Application button (R in top left corner) select Export>Report>Schedule.
Keep the default name RenameSheetList.txt, browse to where your PDFs live, or are going to live. Just say OK to overwrite existing file.
In next dialog box leave defaults as is, just click OK.
3. Print your Sheets
Go to the Print command.
Either select a PDF printer that doesn't ask what to name each file, or change the Properties... of the Adobe printer so that:
- the Abobe PDF Output Folder is pointing to the right folder,
- View Adobe PDF results is unticked,
-Ask to replace existing PDF file is unticked.
Back in the Revit dialog make sure Create separate files. View/Sheet names will be appended to the specified name is picked.
By default the Name: box has the project file name with a .pdf extension in it.
Depending on how the Revit schedule has been set up you can either; leave it as it is; delete your username, leaving just the project file name; or replace it with the same characters as in the Revit schedule.
(Refer to SET UP PROCEDURE).
Make sure you leave the .pdf part.
Note the path is immaterial - the path that was set in the printer will be used.
Select the sheets you want to print in Print range.
Select your print settings under Settings.
Click OK.
Go and do something else while Revit prints.
4. Rename the PDFs
Wait for Revit to finish printing.
Place a copy of !RenameRevitPDF.bat in the same folder as RenameSheetList.txt and all your new pdf files. !RenameRevitPDF.bat can be found in S:\Revit Settings\Batch Files.
Double click on !RenameRevitPDF.bat. Follow the prompts (if there are any).
Done!
