AD-HOC ARCHIVING
An archive copy of project files can be made at any time.
Consider doing it before any major changes to the model, if the project is not going to be worked on for a while, or a milestone has been reached.
Revit internally records its path so you can not move or copy a workshared (central) file. You have to do it via Save As.
Open the project file you want to archive (e.g. 1506_SD_SHT15_main.rvt)
Sync to Central. (to re-freshen your local file).
Save As
In the Save As dialog:
1. Browse to project's Revit folder where the project file lives, then to the Archive Folder.
Create a new folder. Name it with ISO date.
2. Edit the name; remove your name and replace it with ISO date in brackets.
3. Hit Options button.
Under Options... tick Make this a Central Model after save.
Hit OK
Close (you will be in the central file so it is important to close the file).
END OF STAGE ARCHIVING
At the end of each stage (schematic, town planning, DD, etc) a full archive should be made of the project file and all used linked files, both Revit and CAD.
The above method for Ad-Hoc archiving can be used, but also:
Identify the folder as being for that stage (e.g. 150520_SDcomplete)
do it for all linked files as well to the same folder.
copy all used CAD files to the same folder.
Alternatively install the e-transmit addin from Autodesk (available as part of their subscription).
