A Color Fill Scheme places fill patterns (including solid colours) that represent Rooms, Areas or Spaces (for MEP). Color coding is based on a parameter of the Rooms, Areas or Spaces. For example Room Name may be used so each room is a different color, or Department, so rooms have the colour of the department they belong to.
Color Fill Schemes can be applied to following views:
Plan
Section
Elevation
Detail
They can NOT be applied to Reflected Ceiling plans.
The Color Scheme parameter sets which color scheme applies to a view.
There are several ways to access Color Fill Schemes. Simplest is to click on the Color Scheme parameter as shown below.
The way is via the menu. Architecture > Room & Area tile, click on the small black triangle, then Color Schemes:
Use either method and the Edit Color Scheme dialog appears.
Under Category: change to the type you want to use (typically Rooms, or if in an Area Plan, Areas).
Select an existing color fill scheme [1], then the Duplicate icon [2] and give your color fill scheme a name [3].
Use a name that anyone not familiar with the project would understand.
Next give your scheme a Title: [1] (this will be used on the Legend), then under Color: select the parameter you want to use for color coding [2].
You may get a message. Make double sure you aren't editing an existing scheme rather than creating a new one.
If your rooms already have values for the Department parameter Revit will assign colours itself.
You can choose different colours, and different fill patterns.
Results will instantly show in the view.
A view's Color Scheme Location parameter sets whether it behind or in front of objects within rooms.
When set to Background fill is behind joinery etc.
When set to Foreground it covers joinery etc.
TO ADD A LEGEND
Under Annotate tab find Color Fill Legend icon.
Click on it and then place the legend in your view.
NOTES:
Color Fill Legends can only be placed in views - they can NOT be placed on Sheets.
Color Fill Legends are an annotation category that can be turned off. If you can't see your legend check Color Fill Legends haven't been turned off.
If you remove a Color Scheme from a view (by setting Color Scheme to <none>) the legend will still still be there with the words "No color scheme assigned to view".
Just delete it, but keep in mind you will have to place another one if you later assign a color scheme to the view.
To change the appearance of Color Fill Legends duplicate an existing type and edit the Type parameters (text size, font, swatch size etc.).
