Beside the usual Visibility/Graphics Overrides there are a number of additional ways to control appearance of items in a view.
Detail Level Override
A quick way to control how a view appears is to use Visibility/Graphics Overrides to change the Detail Level of individual categories.
This can be handy, for example, if you want walls, floors & roofs to show as simple lines or filled in.
To make them filled in set Detail Level override to coarse for these categories, and in the type properties of each set the Coarse Scale Fill Pattern parameter to the fill pattern you want.
Overriding Host Layers
This controls the appearance of cut edges in layers (the lines within)of walls, roofs, floors, and ceilings.
Normally these are controlled by the Material assigned to the layer in under the Structure type parameter of walls, ceilings, roofs and floors.
It is only relevant in views that cut the model; plans and sections.
You find it bottom right of the Visibility/Graphics Overrides dialog.
You can change the way each of the layer types display.
There are also Core layer clean-up options:
Default:
Use Function: Ignores the material settings (the line is never invisible) and sets the style of the separating line based on the layers' functional priorities (the numbers in square brackets). The style of a separating line is determined by the layer with the higher functional priority (lowest number).
Use Common Edge Style: Common Edges is a sub-category of Walls, Roofs, Floors and Ceilings
No Edge: Sets the separating line to invisible whenever the layers have the same fill pattern.
Silhouette Style
You can control the line style of edge lines in elevation, section & 3D views. Traditional practice is to make edges thicker. This command allows you to do it automatically without having to pick each line with the Linework tool.
It is found under the Graphic Display Options parameter of views. You can get to it by either finding it in the properties of a view, or clicking on the Shadows icon along the bottom of the screen.
Any defined Line Style can be used.
If using this makes some lines silhouette that you don’t want shown this way, use the Linework tool to either make them <Not Silhouette>, or choose another Line style.
